Fall 2014

CEP 810

Course Title: Teaching for Understanding with Technology

Course Instructors: Missy McCarthy & Alison Keller

CEP 810 was an excellent start of my MAET program. This course acquaints with multiple ways to use technology in professional practice. I was challenged to reflect on ways in which technology and professional learning networks could support my learning process and subsequently, that of my students. The exploration and demonstration of the Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) theory helped me to get a deeper understanding of how the theory is used in the classroom. In my 21st-century lesson plan that I designed in this course helped me to assess student’s formative and use google docs to enhance collaboration among students.

CEP 811

Course Title: Adapting Innovative Technology in Education

Course Instructors: Amy Pietrowski, Mary Wever

In CEP 811, I was challenged to create and repurpose the existing learning technologies, using maker tools and own creativity to take pedagogical practices to the next level. This course offers me to view the educational technologies from the new perspective and has helped to transform my educational philosophy as a whole. I explored and interacted with several new technological devices and programs such as MaKey MaKey inventor’s kit, SketchUp, Google Hangouts, Scratch, and Mozilla Popcorn. All these tools and technologies provide me the opportunity to rethink traditional classroom space and heightened my personal and professional growth intellectually.

Spring 2015

CEP 812

Course Title:Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice

Course Instructors: Sean Sweeney & Colin Gallagher

CEP 812 was the third in my MAET program and final course in my Educational Technology Certificate Program sequence. This course provides me the opportunity to survey about the integration of educational technologies in professional practices. I explored the several types of problems (well-structured, ill-structured and wicked) and practiced my problem-solving skill to resolve significant problems smartly. Furthermore, I analyzed high-priority educational problems with my think tank, critically examined my info-diet, explored means to use technologies to support my students with special need, and reflect on the ways my Passion Quotient (PQ) and Curiosity Quotient (CQ) to support my student learning.

CEP 805

Course Title:Learning Mathematics with Technology

Course Instructors: Dr. Ralph Putnam and Eryn Stehr

In CEP 805, I explored the interaction of school mathematics content, the technology that supports mathematics teaching and learning, and the cognitive and social processes of learning. This was the one course that was specific to my current content area as a math teacher. In groups, we compiled various resources database or online resource library within our grade level, content area and cited the benefits of each digital tools and applets on their educational advantage for students and which learning objectives/state standards they met. With the help of technological tool evaluation criteria, I expand my understanding of how that specific tool is effective, what learning opportunities it offer, how it can enhance my student’s critical thinking, metacognitive and problem-solving skills.

Summer 2015

CEP 800

Course Title:Learning in School and Other Settings

Course Instructors: Dr. Cary Roseth and Diana Campbell

In CEP 800, helped me to understand the major psychological perspective of learning to design and utilize strategies to address the needs of all learners. I explored how the various strategies including scaffolding, metacognitive tasks, and elaborate practice can help to improve student’s conditional knowledge, in the real world application. I also evaluated the benefits of various technological tools that can support the psychological learning theories. This course helps me to understand how I approach working with students, peer, and other professionals, especially in a school setting.

CEP 822

Course Title: Approaches to Educational Research

Course Instructors: Dr. E. David Wong, Daniel Freer, and Ha Thanh Nguyen

In this course, I explored some methods of approaching educational research and how research support the educational theory. CEP 822 helped me in developing a hypothesis of my chosen topic related to the educational setting, developing a digital space to post results and analyzing and comparing my results to previous authors’ research and findings. My research topic was “Role of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in schools” because I want to implement ABA in my school for the regular and students with special needs as well. It was a great experience of working with data- driven, evidence based practice as this is becoming a more effective practice in education.

Fall 2015

CEP 820

Course Title: Teaching Students Online

Course Instructors: Dr. Anne Heintz & Liz Owens Boltz

This award winning course helped me to explore the affordance of online learning environment that better meet the educational needs of students across the lifespan. In this course, I analyzed the types of online learning settings and course management systems. I create my online course by using a Content Management System (CMS) of my choice. I learned to integrate digital tools, discussion forums, collaborative tasks, and applets into my virtual classroom. I explored the ways to provide a learning environment that can enhance my students learning beyond the content and classroom through technology.

Spring 2016

CEP 815

Course Title: Technology and Leadership

Course Instructors: Benjamin Gleason and Missy McCarthy

CEP 815 helped me to develop my leadership goals by identifying significant topics that are predominant in school districts today.  CEP 815 focused on developing an understanding of six different leadership styles and how they play out within the work environment. In this course, I developed a professional vision based on research and my personal beliefs about the education. I also created a plan for implementing that vision I had for technology integration in my workplace. Furthermore, I learned to use various professional development strategies, project management, planning, evaluation, relationship building, along with the ethical and social implications of technology integration.

Summer 2016

CEP 807

Course Title: Capstone Educational Technology

Course Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhalgh, Sarah Keenan & Brittany Dillman

Capstone is an award-winning course, is a culminating experience for my Master's in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University. In this course, I created an online showcase of my experience in MAET program and the image of myself I want to portray to colleagues and future employers. Through peer collaboration, I created useful resources such as annotated transcripts, resumes, and work showcases that will benefit the potential employers to have a better understanding of me, my work ethic and professional competencies.  By creating a digital portfolio, I reflect on my experience in the program, consider my future goals as a learner and professional that polished my skills and evolved me as a new learner, educator, and innovator.
