MY FUTURE LEARNING GOAL

Planting a tree

"If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people."

Confucius

Teaching is an act of giving to the community. It’s for the selfless; for those with great minds and greater hearts, and thus my interest in teaching is not to decorate my resume with ever increasing bullet points but to give, with every capacity I have, the most to the community.

Teaching much like learning has been a part of my goal to give generously to the community, the best that one can give. With the passage of time and adding on to my education and experience, I have developed a refined goal. I envision myself as a leader and presenter at large forums like TED talk, want to help people with special need by polishing my skills and knowledge about special education. Also, I see myself continuing my education and earning a doctorate in technology. So I am ready to accept the challenges so that I can feel the exhilaration of victory.

I believe in inspiring and empowering the learning in my students by encouraging a creative and innovative way of learning through technology. My first goal is to develop myself as a leader who would eventually have the experience and insight to teach other teachers and those with a vested interest in the world of education. While watching the TED talks, I always dreamed of presenting at this forum as an educator, researcher, innovator or motivational speaker. Speaking at TED talks would allow other professionals to hear what I do in my classroom, and know about my research and approach towards the appropriate integration of technology in the various content areas including math, science and special education. I have watched these presentations and have always gained something new that helped me to improve myself as an educator, leader, and innovator. Now I would like to improve my public speaking and leadership skills by joining the TED community and Brian Tracy International to learn how to become a goal-oriented leader, and be able to craft a clear and compelling talk effectively every time I communicate with people.

With a lot of vigor, passion and integrity, and knowledge and understanding about people with special needs, I seek to make the difference in the world of special education. I have always tried to use the strategies, tools, and resources that could best support my students. Resources like CAST Professional Learning free webinars and resources from Teacher Vision provided me the thoughtful use of curriculum strategies and classroom management strategies for students with different learning needs. However, the ever-changing world of education needs constant improvement in skills and knowledge. To reach my second learning goal, I would like to take the special education-specialist qualification  from Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). This qualification would provide me with in-depth knowledge in the field of special education; focusing on the development of leadership and advocacy skills, and providing a dynamic review of the main equity issues and dilemmas. This qualification would be an add-on to my previous qualifications, knowledge, and understanding about special education.

The Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program is a milestone in my life as it has changed my beliefs and perceptions about the technology. The ideas I’ve been exposed to in this program have made me a more open, mindful, and motivated teacher. This program made me eager to explore and improve myself. Now I would like to continue my education and earn a doctorate in technology from Michigan State University (MSU). The Educational Psychology and Educational Technology (EPET) doctoral program is a nationally ranked program of Michigan State University. It produces scholars and leaders in the study of human learning and development, the development and study of diverse technologies supporting learning and teaching. This program will enable me to pursue my career in university research and education, research on and development of educational technologies, and leadership roles in school systems.

My goal in life is not merely to survive as a learner, but to thrive as an educator; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some vigor, and some integrity. My future goals of developing myself as a leader and presenter at big forums like TED talk, my passion of helping people with special need and continuing with my education and earn a doctorate in technology are just a first step of planting the tree. This tree has to bear fruit, leaves and blossoms.
